This is a nice place to have a quiet dinner and a couple of drinks. I have been to this place 3 or 4 times and will probably return. Up front people should know that this is not going to be a cheap experience. Dinners start in the $25.00 range and go up from there. If you like to have cocktails and an appetizer before dinner then you can expect to spend $100.00 before its all said and done. The atmosphere was warm and adds to the experience. This is a nice place to "Relax" and have a good time. Don't forget the espresso martini and creme brûlée after dinner!

I thought the atmosphere was second to none. Very romantic. The food is great ( porterhouse and filet is awesome). And I always had great service. Great choices of whisey/scotch. My only complaint would be that they don't have a great selection of beer. Other then that it's the best place for a dining experience (especially for TH). One last thing is that it's expensive. So if you bring a date you won't spend less than $100 (unless of course you're a cheap a$$). But to me a great place to eat is worth the money.

This establishment has an excellent ambiance and decor. The decor was unique and fit the name of this restaurant perfectly. Stables. The staff and service were outstanding. This is a good steak house and I was glad that we found it in Terre Haute, Indiana. The downside is that the food was not as exceptional as the decor. The steak, which was a bone-in Rib Eye, was average to the taste and texture. The seared scallops were tasty however still average. The shinning star of the dinner were the Brussels Sprouts. The Brussels Sprouts tasted really great. Eventually a nice bottle of Cabernet wine, The Whitehall Lane, took care of all mediocre stuff and made the entire experience feel good.

Maybe in New York I would say 4 star but in Terre freakin Haute this place is amazing. Just had salmon and cheesy mashed. Out of this world - the flavors. Great price for just a high quality spot.

I was in town on a business trip. Asked for the best steakhouse in town and Stables Steakhouse was one of the recommendations. I had the Caesar salad, ribeye steak, mashed potatoes and for dessert the chocolate pudding. By far this has been the best steak I had hands down. I have been to Malone's, Ted Montana's and Morton's ! So far Stables is #1 in my list for Ribeye steak! Everything was delicious and great portions for a reasonable price. I love this place. The decor is very romantic for special occasions.

Pricey but very good food and service. Highly enjoyable rustic atmosphere, and overall an genuine delightful experience.

My ribeye was very mediocre and my wife's $60.00 bone-in filet was just ok. I have had better cuts and better cooked steaks routinely at the roadhouse, and at home. That said, the sweet potato casserole was outstanding and the liquor selection was fantastic. However, for my wife and I, $150.00 for the meal plus tip is way overpriced considering the quality. One thing to mention is the service, the waitresses and waiters were excellent.

Nice decor. Great food. Pricy for this city Sat at bar Another bar where no thought for knee room Underside of bar is TOO close. Where is there room for your knees? So in essence you can't sit at bar facing bar you have to sit sideways to eat . Really ?? What a joke

Service was bad but our waiter was stoned and busy hitting on the two girls at the bar. The service was rushed with our dinners arriving before we had finished our starter. I like a nice fillet served very rare (blue). After I received my steak with just a bit of pink and no red in the center I was told that's the rarest they'll cook beef. The best time to have told me the restaurant won't serve rare meat would have been when I ordered it. I was also amazed when I was told they couldn't provide me with a tap beer as the bartender didn't know how to change the CO2 tank. It's been a long time since I slinged suds but every bartender in America should know how to tap a keg and change the tank. The decor was top shelf and they had a nice selection of Scotch which the staff knew painfully little about. Very spendy for the area.

The cross-country trip got us to Terre Haute to the Candlewood Suites (the best in the city). Walked down to the Stables Restaurant and Bar. Very busy on a Saturday night. We knew little about the restaurant except it was the stables for the brewery delivery horses. Beautiful interior and there was live music with a violin and pianist who very talented. The staff was attentive and friendly and the bone-in rib eye was superb and more than enough for two of us to share with decent wines. Eat here for sure. The GM came by to chat and comped us a glass of wine!

Once again Yelped a winner! From the outside and surrounding neighborhood we weren't too sure but when we entered we were greeted by a gracious hostess. Peter the waiter was very warm, welcoming and shared a wealth of knowledge about the menu, the building and the city. We had fried green tomatoes for an appetizer, delicious home bread. Spinach salad, New York strip steak, sweet potato casserole. Steak was delicious and prepared perfectly. Saved room for desert. All home-made. Crime brûlée with black Raspberriess. Definitely worth the stop!

Food is some of the best in town but service if very subpar! Have visited on multiple occasions with business colleagues and spent hundreds of dollars and each the time the service was well below where it should everything else being considering

Went to Stables with a group of 12. Service was very good for a group this size. Our waiter, Peter, was very attentive. I started with Oysters Rockefeller followed by the French Onion Soup. Both were very good. The soup had a nice combination of cheeses, which isn't unique, but it did have chunks of steak in it too. I then had the Filet steak with cheesy garlic mashed potatoes. This entree was also to my liking. For dessert I had cream brûlée which was yummy. Also to my surprise, at the bar they had Ron Zacapa XO (aged 25 years) Rum which I had with dessert. Over all I had a very enjoyable evening at Stables.

Came in from Ohio to visit family. If you are in town you have to eat here! The food was superb and our waitress Laura, was tremendous. I would recommend asking for her by name. Loved sitting in the gangster room in the secluded area. Dessert was also amazing, bread pudding is top notch. Will definitely be back when we are in town! A+ food A++++ service.

I've only been to Stables once and here is why I gave it three stars. Food: Honestly it was average. I ordered the wedge salad, grilled vegetables and grilled scallops. The salad was fresh and had bacon bits on it. Nothing special about it. The vegetables were under cooked and the cauliflowers were bitter for some reason. The scallops that everyone raves about was just okay in my opinion. Piloni's does a better. Don't get me wrong, the food isn't bad. It is just average for the price. The bread pudding, however, was so creamy and original. It is definitely worth a try! Service: Our waiter Peter (I think) has been working at Stables for 18 years and he knows what he's talking about. Although he could be a little overwhelming and tell you what to order even when you know what you want. Not necessarily a bad thing. Atmosphere: The live music and ambient lighting were nice and romantic. I was the only one in my group who did not like the set up of the restaurant. We were sitting right next to the kitchen and you can hear everything, from cutting lettuce to putting away pots and pans. Annoying. Overall it was an enjoyable experience. The bread pudding was the only thing that stood out. It is good for business dinners, romantic dates and special occasions, but you can find better food with more reasonable price elsewhere.

There's sonmuch to love about Stables. I wish I could break my review into separate aspects. Well, why the heck can't I? 5 stars for the space. Met by musicians playing in the front. Beautiful decor. Comfortable seating. Can't think of a better looking restaurant in a small city that I'be visited. Just gorgeous. Beautiful bar area. 5 stars for service. All personnel clearly had our enjoyment in mind and worked hard to make it so. Most notable is that our waiter noticed that we didn't care for some of our food, inquired, and comped us with a dessert. Noble effort. He also knew the menu and was quick with recommendations. Staff was able to seemlessly move us from bar to table when our table was ready. 2 stars for food. It just didn't meet the standards of the other aspects of Stables. Had the crab bisque which was far too salty. Hard to donwith a bisque. Salads were nice, but drenched in dressings that were too rich. Again, gravy for the beef medallions too salty. Probably the mixed vegetable side for the porterhouse was the most disappointing. Vegetable tips were burned, yet were still oily and limp. We had a fruit cobbler dessert. The crust was stale and the fruit flavors were just overpowered by sugar. That seems like a lot of hate, but I will note that the porterhouse steak was terrific, and a really good value. I had high expectations for Stables because I love the other establishments in this restaurant group. Mogger's (across the street), and Richards Farm are two of my all time favorites. I can't rave about them enough. Stables has everything going for it, just the food needs some attention to meet changing tastes. For a good dining experience, I can still recommend Stables, but there's a lot more potential.

The best salmon with soy-sugar glaze I have ever had! Our server, Peter, provided the best service I've ever had in a restaurant! I highly recommend this restaurant for its food, environment and service!

The black and bleu fillet is amazing. The bread pudding will change your religion. The service is impeccable. Easily the best fine dining experience in Terre Haute.

Great atmosphere, great steak, average service and extremely expensive. First, Stables is a high price restaurant. It will cost you at least $60 for two to eat there. The steak is amazing and totally top notch. I got a chicken pasta dish and thought the quality at Olive Garden was 10 times better for the same dish (Half the cost too). The service was average at best. Went on a Monday night and my wife asked for steak sauce. It took them at least seven minutes to get it. Had to ask twice for it. The atmosphere and the steak is why you come to Stables. Everything else was average at best.

We found this place by accident we were actually going to the bar across the street but they didn't want to seat us!!! Decided we would go here instead! I'm so glad that we did! It was excellent! We were seated within five minutes and had a drink in our hands soon after! They have fabulous Caesar salads and excellent fillets! The atmosphere is wonderful, comfortable seating all-around nice place to go! We will be back! And for the place across the street that didn't want to seat us ----as Julia Roberts would say in Pretty Woman - "MISTAKE! BIG MISTAKE!!!"

Extremely over priced for the quality and taste of the menu items. Good size salad but drowned in dressing, nice sized grilled seafood but not worth $25+ due to the very small portions and lack of a signature flavor. Even the side dishes were undercooked, cold or drowned in sauce depending on what was ordered. In addition, the service is attentive but the staff's friendliness is inconsistent. Nice server, sloppy bus boys and a host that doesn't smile doesn't fit with the experience this place is trying to deliver.

Was with a large group for a meal last evening. The food was excellent in preparation and presentation. Baked Brie appetizer, Wedge salad, petite filet with sweet potato casserole and a yummy Hypnotini. Our servers were very attentive. My only complaint was the lighting was very dim for a non-romantic dinner.....not worth taking away a star!
